Permits and licensing
- This work rarely needs a permit, but a town can still require one for parts of it.
- Licensing depends on the state: a trade license in some, a home-improvement registration in others, none in the rest. The finder shows what the record says where one exists.
Know what you're looking at

Moisture meters help an inspector find damp walls and floors that look dry. A reading points to a place to look closer; it does not by itself prove a leak.

A meter reading against a wall or floor can show hidden moisture from leaks or condensation. Ask the inspector to explain any high readings and what could cause them.
